SOULGASM: ANNIVERSARY 6.5

The other day I walked by what used to be one of my favorite late night spots in the East Village, Sin Sin/The Leopard Lounge. It’s some kind of organic burger joint now, but you had to experience the Soulgasm party on a Wednesday night to really appreciate what NYC’s underground dance culture is all about for dedicated househeads _ many who came across the globe for the vibe. “Soulgasm means freedom, no restrictions,” resident DJ “The Wizard” Brian Coxx explains. Though, the party may have lost its home base, the spirit behind Soulgasm remains strong as it celebrates the sixth anniversary this Wednesday at The Vault at Element in the Lower East Side. For me, it never was about the venue anyway, rather the feeling Soulgasm sparked when the music was right and you just went with the flow. Perhaps, one of the anniversary promotions I saw recently sums it up best:

“Remember how much fun you had at Soulgasm every Wednesday for five great years? You danced and laughed, enjoyed cocktails and each other. Everything and everyone was diverse and together we had a ball running around two floors of music. Well, because the beloved venue Sin Sin closed its doors for good, there was not an opportunity to celebrate their sixth anniversary a few months ago. So, the SOULGASM CREW _ DJ Brian Coxx, Ejoe and REDness proudly present a very special event, SOULGASM: ANNIVERSARY 6.5.  It’s like a 1/2 birthday but better! Please join them on Wednesday, April 11, … as they reunite for an evening of House, funk, soul and dancing with all of you fabulous friends that helped make Soulgasm so special.”
