If this were an episode of the popular game show, Jeopardy, the answer ‘Tis the season’ would elicit a prompt response from any good copy editor or headline writer … what’s a common holiday catchphrase that makes you cringe? I’m hoping this Christmas/holiday season means far more than a mad dash to buy gifts, party all night and overindulge whenever the opportunity presents itself (OK, pardon the unintended pun re presents). For some people, it isn’t all cheer and goodwill if they’ve suffered a death or setback during the time. I have to remind myself how important it is to reach out to those who need it, even if I don’t feel like reaching out. A phone call, a holiday card that requires real postage, a hug, an acknowledgment beyond online tags and pokes. Most of all, I must remind myself the importance of being good to me, too. Can’t be so hard on ourselves if we don’t bake enough gingerbread cookies or find the perfect gift or make every, single holiday party announced 24-7 as the new year approaches. Just tap into the unconditional love we all deserve and share that as much as possible.
