‘Soul Train’ keeps on movin’

News of ‘Soul Train’ creator and host Don Cornelius’ death caught many off guard last week, including myself. Reports of an apparent suicide at his home were particularly disturbing as you never know what burdens are too much for some to bear alone. On Saturday, the joy and pride Cornelius shared with the world via his ground-breaking TV show that promoted powerfully positive images of African-Americans once again sprang to life on a Saturday _ filling Times Square with a flash mob taking over Broadway for a 45-minute ‘Soul Train’ line in honor of his memory. If the smiles on the faces of dozens strutting their stuff down the street indicated anything, Cornelius would be proud his message isn’t lost … “as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!”
