PHOTO: Wacky Art Installations Are FIGMENT of Imagination

Flights of fancy are encouraged among emerging and established artists participating in the community-driven FIGMENT art festival, which began in 2007 in New York City and now includes events in Boston, Detroit, Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh and Jackson, Miss. FIGMENT hosts its annual summer-long exhibition on Governors Island in June, and this year’s art installations did not disappoint. Curiosity piqued? You can still visit the FIGMENT 2012 TreeHouse, Interactive Sculpture Garden and artist-designed Minigolf Course through Sept. 23, 2012. All exhibits are free and just a short ferry ride away while the island is open on Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays.
