Miami Music Week is in full swing, with a 10-day stretch of international DJ lineups and beach parties hyped for the Winter Music Conference and Ultra Music Festival. Ahead of all that, clubbers in New York converged in the borough of Queens for a powerhouse mash-up headlining Dance Ritual’s Louie and Anané Vega, and key players in South Africa’s House movement. DJs Black Coffee, Fresh & Euphonik, Shimza and Culoe de Song were on the bill March 15 at System Dance Club. The vibrant and vocal crowd came for House music all night long, and they got it.

A year ago, more than 800 people packed Sullivan Room to experience Mzansi in New York. Since then, Black Coffee has led the charge in expanding a worldview of electronic dance music and its soulful roots. In case you missed it, check out Dubspot‘s exclusive interview with South Africa’s leading men of House last year. And, revisit my piece on Black Coffee’s Africa Rising mini-doc production.
