Read it and weep: Greenwich Village’s venerable record hub Bleecker Bob’s officially closed shop this month. New York City, as we once knew it, quickly fades with yet another cultural landmark shutting down to make way for a yogurt shop or something just as replaceable in a few months.

This week, I picked the above shot for The Daily Post’s photo challenge. Change is inevitable, and what a poignantly befitting example. As we go about our day-to-day, recognize the changes in your life regardless how small they may seem at the time.

Oddly, I took this picture of the iconic West 3rd Street storefront as I strolled by one chilly pre-dawn in January. It was spur of the moment after a night out dancing at an underground club in the neighborhood. At the time, I didn’t realize Bleecker Bob’s was on its last legs (opened in 1967). Then again, shouldn’t be surprised since its fate was written on the wall like so many mom and pop, brick and mortar shops in the city. Already missing another one of NYC’s lost treasures.
