WELLNESS: NYC Parks Moving Up the Ranks

PARK4

Did you know that 20 percent of this concrete jungle is dedicated to parks? Yes, New York City recently made the Top 5 list of U.S. cities with the best parks, ahead of scenic San Francisco, Atlanta, Seattle, Boston and even Miami. The Trust for Public Land’s annual ParkScore index, which analyzed the 50 largest U.S. cities, ranked Minneapolis at No. 1 and measures such factors as access, size, services and investment.

The survey also notes that 96 percent of NYC’s residents live within a 10-minute walk to a park. What an excellent way to beat stress, lift the spirit and improve health. As the rainy remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea move across the East Coast this weekend, I submit a few scenes from Central Park on a sunny day when I went for a stroll.

  1. When I was living in NYC, being two blocks away from Central Park was the only thing that kept me sane! Thanks for bringing back great memories of yoga in the park, Monopoly in the park, picnics, running around the reservoir and the leaves turning colour in the fall.
