MUSIC: EDM Headliners, Fans Amp Up Electric Zoo Festival
If you’re anywhere near New York or Randall’s Island Park for Labor Day weekend, the hype around Electric Zoo Festival is off the charts. In its fifth year, the Made Event team pulled every punch to secure as many top players in the EDM scene right now _ David Guetta, Tiesto, Avicii, Steve Aoki, Armin Van Buuren, Diplo, Zedd, Hardwell, Knife Party, Benny Benassi, A-Trak, Boys Noize, John Digweed, Claude VonStroke, Eats Everything … it’s a long list.
Scoring tickets at $139 and up for New York City’s largest electronic dance music fest may be too lofty a goal, so more than a dozen official after-parties are planned throughout the city. In case none of these options fill the void, don’t overlook the intimate venues and funkier, deep House sets of New York’s underground dance culture. EDM has arrived by following in the footsteps of a tried and true (established) tradition.
UPDATE: Recent article posted by the Nightlife Cultural Initiative in response to two deaths reported at the Electric Zoo festival in New York. The event was cut short as a result. Magnetic magazine, which I regularly contribute, also published the following ‘open letter‘ to EDM fans.
