MUSIC: VH1 Biopic ‘CrazySexyCool’ Reveals We’re Still On the TLC Tip

If you find yourself looking up pretty much every TLC video on YouTube today, then you’re in good company. VH1’s biopic, CrazySexyCool, aired last night and reminded us exactly why Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas instantaneously connected with the world through their music.

The Atlanta-based, Grammy-winning trio’s triumphs and tribulations provided more than enough material to encapsulate TLC’s “rise to fame in the 1990s as one of the world’s most talented, celebrated, and highest-selling female groups of all time.” By the looks of it, the VH1 film did justice in the court of public opinion (er, Twitterverse). These three young women endured a lot of personal strife, yet stuck it out as a band until Lopes’ tragic death in 2002. Together, they were strong, beautiful, funny and for real.

Today’s hottest (usually scantily clad) acts and attention-starved reality TV stars should take a page from TLC’s book, and do some serious soul-searching about female empowerment. TLC’s surviving members are upholding the legacy and a special bond with each other and their fans.
