FASHION: Frugal Fashionista Lilliana Vazquez Shares ‘CheapChica’s’ Secret To Success

With a wildly popular blog, full schedule of TV appearances and new book launch, you have to wonder how style and fashion expert Lilliana Vazquez keeps up with what’s on-trend and stays true to her journalistic roots. It’s no easy task for the founder and editor-in-chief of The CheapChica’s Guide to Style, but somehow she balances it all with confidence and compassion!

Throughout October, Vazquez has been busy helping brighten the lives of women featured on the Wendy Williams Show for a special Breast Cancer Survivor Makeover segment. Williams has donated wigs from her collection and, in a touching display of support, fans of the talk show even cut their hair live on TV.

“This month has been incredible and the women were all wonderful!” Vazquez shares with Tania Fuentez Media. She adds on her website that, “I’m so honored to be a part of this series of makeovers … and celebrate how strong and amazing these women truly are!”

Vazquez, born in Dallas to Mexican and Puerto Rican parents, is a first generation Latina closely involved in charity work with a focus on empowering Latino youth, according to her site. An active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and The Newswomen’s Club of New York, Vazquez continues to inspire and uplift by example. The new book is available next week, illustrating her knack for looking chic on the cheap!

Tell us a little about your blog and how it got started.

LV: is the go-to online destination for frugal fashionistas who love to shop cheap but look chic! The blog features the best trends and hottest finds for under $100 every single day. I started the blog in 2008 with one goal – to give new meaning to the word “cheap” and show women that style and saving were not mutually exclusive!

Have you always dreamed of a career in fashion? What do you love most about it?

LV: I have! I love every aspect of this industry – the designers, photographers, make up artists, and stylists … but most of all, I love that the career I’ve chosen has give me the opportunity to share that knowledge and passion with such a large audience through my blog and TV appearances.

How do you keep track of current trends? What are some of your personal favorites?

LV: I’m addicted to the Internet so I’m constantly scouring Instagram, tumblr, Twitter, my favorite fashion sites and personal style blogs for trends and inspiration! I love Into The Gloss for beauty, Wendy’s Lookbook for feminine style and Atlantic-Pacific for a little West Coast flair!

What can we expect to discover in your book?

LV: Think of this book as the bible of budget fashion! It’s the first time a book has ever combined styling, shopping and saving all into one very fashionable package! I wrote this book for savvy shoppers like me who have Balenciaga taste on a Banana Republic budget … it’s a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know on shopping cheap and looking chic!
