REALITY TV: DOCUMENTARY SHARES TRUE STORIES OF THE UNEMPLOYED IN UNITED STATES

Over 50 and Out of Work is an online multimedia project documenting the stories of Americans, 50 and older, who lost their jobs due to the Great Recession (2007-2009). The project evolved into the award-winning documentary Set for Life, which immediately hit close to home as I watched today’s broadcast on WNET-Thirteen (Jan. 4, 2014).

Even if you’re not a baby boomer or job prospects remain bright despite the economy, pay attention to the message because it is universal. Speaking from experience, I’ll simply suggest checking local listings for Sue Sipprelle and Sam Newman’s film on America’s unemployment crisis — currently airing on public television stations nationwide. Instead of making a list of resolutions for 2014, make it a priority to improve on the American Dream.
